ASSOCIAÇÃO MIRATUS DE BADMINTON

Sebastião Dias de Oliveira is a Brazilian physical educator and badminton coach, known for founding the Miratus Badminton Association in the Chacrinha community in Jacarepaguá, Rio de Janeiro. Born in Espírito Santo, Sebastião spent part of his life interned at the National Foundation for the Welfare of Minors (Funabem), where he remained until he was eighteen. He noticed the lack of opportunities for young people in disadvantaged communities. Inspired by this reality, in 1998 he started a social project focused on the practice of badminton, using his own resources and a donated piece of land in the community. He built the Miratus headquarters, manually digging 198 holes for the building's foundation.
